A cut above the rest: Husqvarna’s next-gen robotic mowers

As South Africans prepare for another summer of lawn care, Husqvarna has unveiled the next evolution of its pioneering Automower® technology.

Since introducing robotic mowing to South African gardens in 2010, Husqvarna has turned hours of lawn maintenance into valuable time saved. Now, the launch of the cutting-edge Husqvarna Automower® NERA range is set to transform lawn maintenance once more, with smart features for domestic gardens.

The summer rains bring both beauty and burden: While gardens flourish, keeping up with rapidly growing grass can feel like a full-time job. This is where the Automower® NERA range steps in, turning what was once a lengthy chore into an automated solution that works quietly in the background while you invest your time in the things that matter most.

“Automower® NERA was developed through close collaboration with our customers to directly address their needs,” says Wynand Lombaard, service manager at Husqvarna South Africa. “Feedback received from users across the globe highlighted a strong desire for more flexibility, easier setup and smarter features. The Automower® NERA range delivers exactly that, combining smart technology with the reliability our customers have trusted for years.

“The Automower® NERA is able to operate without traditional perimeter wires, using advanced virtual boundary technology for precise and flexible lawn care, thus eliminating the risk of wire breakage,” he explains.

“However, to access the full range of features, including the virtual boundary functionality, the optional Husqvarna Exact Positioning Operating System (EPOS) plug-in kit must be purchased separately. This technology uses satellite-based positioning, providing centimetre-level accuracy and greater flexibility in managing large or complex areas via the Automower® Connect app. It even syncs with weather patterns using IFTTT (If That, Then This), which pauses mowing during heavy rain or when children are playing.”

Heading to the coast or off on a trip to the bush this December? No need to worry about coming home to an overgrown lawn. With the Automower® Connect app and EPOS, you can monitor your grass from your beach chair in Ballito or a lodge in the Kruger via your smartphone. Use the customisable scheduling feature to control when your Automower gets to work, adjust settings and receive real-time updates. It’s like having a virtual groundskeeper ensuring your grass stays perfectly trimmed until you’re back.

And to sweeten the deal, this battery-powered champion runs emission-free and whisper quiet – delivering a cleaner environment and maintaining a peaceful neighbourhood that reflects Husqvarna’s commitment to sustainability.

“We’re really excited to bring a new era of lawn maintenance to South Africa, offering a perfect blend of convenience, performance and sustainability,” says Lombaard, who notes that investing in one of the Husqvarna Automower® Nera models will ultimately pay for itself. He elaborates, “It eliminates traditional lawn care costs: no more garden service fees, fuel expenses or gas mower repairs. Built for durability and requiring minimal upkeep, they are designed to last, while their energy efficiency ensures lower electricity consumption compared to traditional mowers. It is a smart, long-term solution that saves both time and money.”

The Automower® NERA range includes options for every lawn size and complexity:

  • Automower® 310E NERA: Ideal for lawns up to 1 000m², equipped with EdgeCut technology to define precise mowing zones.
  • Automower® 320 NERA: Designed for larger lawns (up to 2 200m²), with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capability.
  • Automower® 430X NERA and 450X NERA (pictured): High-performance models for expansive lawns up to 5 000m², with cellular connectivity and smart features like object avoidance and customisable zones.

“With the rainy season in full swing, there’s no better time to invest in a lawn partner that works as hard as you do,” Lombaard concludes.
