Tippie now also speaks isiXhosa and isiZulu!

Reinette and José Palmer are a formidable mother-and-daughter team that has been helping the country’s children to read with confidence. Learn to read with Tippie the Elephant is a well-loved, proudly South African reading series, and it is in line with the CAPS curriculum.

The good news is that this popular, affordable reading series is now also available in isiXhosa and isiZulu!

The isiXhosa series consists of 50 books, with ten books in each level (Levels R-4). The isiZulu series currently consists of a box set for level R, but work is already underway on the follow-up levels.

The isiXhosa and isiZulu books are not mere translations of Afrikaans and English. It has been written and developed by mother-tongue speakers of isiXhosa and isiZulu. It is ideal for home, second and third language speakers.

The series focuses on natural child development and include a holistic approach to language development and literacy – children no longer learn to read, write, and play in isolation but within context. Children with reading and learning difficulties also benefit from the books and remedial therapists and teachers use the series to good effect.

Level R box sets, Funda ukufunda Inqanaba R (isiXosa) and Funda ukufunda Izinga R (isiZulu), are already in the shops and levels 1-4 (isiXhosa) will be on offer early December.
