Learning through play is an integral part of a child’s development – and art provides a fun, easily accessible platform for this. Zeitz MOCAA’s Centre for Art Education, situated on the lower ground floor of the museum, is a child-friendly space that offers an array of creative workshops for the entire family to take part in. Here’s what’s on offer this month.

April family learning workshop

Inspired by themes in Zeitz MOCAA’s exhibitions, this friendly, open-ended, child-led family visual arts learning event is aimed at accompanied children aged four to eight years. The activities explore multi-modal and multi-sensory learning experiences where children and their parents or caregivers work together to create artworks using a range of three-dimensional techniques and mediums.

When: 10 am – 12 pm on Saturday, 24 April

Where: Centre for Art Education, L-1, Zeitz MOCAA

Facilitator: Amy Cornfield

Cost: R210 with free entry for children, free for members and their children. Zeitz MOCAA memberships are available at R290 and provide unlimited access all year round. Book here.

Children’s Autumn Holiday programme

School may be out but there’s still plenty of fun to be had at Zeitz MOCAA! Children are invited to engage in a wide range of workshops during the autumn holidays. The museum’s Centre for Art Education’s safe and child-friendly classroom spaces are ripe for exploration in the arts – from painting, drawing and collage to 3D construction and printing, children will learn about a variety of inspiring artists and artworks while creating their own from paper, clay, fabric and recycled materials.

When: Workshop for ages 6 – 8: 10 am – 12 pm, Thursday, 29 April – Sunday, 2 May

Workshop for ages 9 – 12: 2 pm – 4 pm, Thursday, 29 April – Sunday, 2 May

Where: Centre for Art Education, L-1, Zeitz MOCAA

Cost: R210 with free entry for children, free for members and their children. Zeitz MOCAA memberships are available at R290 and provide unlimited access all year round. Book here.
