Benefits Of Being A Healthy Mom

by admin

Moms are notorious for putting everyone else first.  They often feel guilty for taking time for themselves, but the opposite is actually more beneficial.  Moms parent better when they take the time to get plenty of sleep, exercise and eat right.  Kids also benefit from having a great role model to follow. So how can moms like you find the time to squeeze it all in? Following are tips to becoming a more healthy mom:

Meet your own needs first – You know the safety talk before a flight’s take-off that addresses using oxygen before helping a child or a neighbor on the plane?  Just like on the plane, it is important for moms to take good care of themselves before they meet all of the needs of their families.  If they fail to do so, their energy levels will wane and they will be short.  Resentment can begin to creep in and mom’s attitude will rub off on her family.  Find the time to take care of yourself by working out, going for a run, getting a pedicure, having lunch with a friend, or participating in a hobby.  When you do, you will be more patient, joyful, and loving. You will also have more energy for your family!

Delegate nonessential tasks – Moms often feel like they have to do it all themselves.  However, it is important to admit that it is okay to ask for help.  There are many tasks that can be delegated to other people in the family to free up time for yourself.  Granted, the tasks may not get done exactly the way you’d do them, but relinquishing some control will do most moms good.  An extra hour a day would give you the time to hit the gym and get in a good workout, which will release endorphins that are beneficial for your emotional and physical well-being.

Healthy multitasking – Who says you can’t do two things at once?  If you love music, play your music while cleaning the house or bathing the kids.  Music can energize you and elevate your mood.  If you like to run races, train by running with your child in the stroller on the way to and from the park.  Incorporating simple things you enjoy into daily life can make a big difference in how your face each day.

Focus on your relationship – One day your kids will be grown up and gone.  Modeling a healthy, loving marriage is one of the best gifts you can give to yourself and your kids.  Make time weekly or monthly for a date night. Getting away from the kids to focus on the most important relationship in your life is essential to making sure your needs are met on a deeper level.

Being a mom is one of the most rewarding jobs a woman can have, yet it can be challenging at times.  Let’s face it; moms are the glue that holds most families together.  When mom takes the time to ensure her needs are met, she is a better wife and mother and the entire family functions more efficiently.  Taking the time to focus on your needs will tighten the family bonds, as you will have the energy to be present and encourage your family members to work toward and achieve their individual and corporate dreams.
