The biggest mistake you’re making with your dry skin

by Tania Griffin

Ever wondered why you may have dry skin? Don’t just accept that this is the norm – you really shouldn’t have dry skin, ever. I managed to completely rejuvenate my skin so that it’s healthy and glowing every day. So I’m proof it can be done!

If you do experience dry skin, it’s time to take matters into your own hands and find the best solutions for yourself. Here, I reveal my journey of rebalancing from dry skin to normal, and how to maintain healthy, glowing skin all-year round. You can decide for yourself if you want to continue living with dry skin, or get that healthy glow you’ve been hoping for.

I’m also uncovering the biggest mistake you may not even realise you’re making: mixing different skincare and makeup brands on your skin. Yes, you read that right – your skincare routine could be sabotaging your skin’s health without your even knowing it. Mine certainly did, and the only way I realised what I needed to do was when I became really ill, as well as having skin conditions like pigmentation, acne and rosacea. My skin was a mess and I knew it was talking to me. I had to make smart and informed decisions, so I became my own detective. I would read every single label of every single product I consumed, whether ingesting it or applying it topically. It might have driven my family a bit nuts, but It’s become one of my favourite obsessions.

Did you know? On average, a woman may apply over 150 different chemicals to her skin every day through a variety of personal care, skincare, haircare, perfume and makeup products, according to numerous global studies on product ingredient lists. In the quest for flawless skin, it’s so easy to fall into the trap of using a mishmash of products from various brands, each promising miraculous results. I know I did.

Did you also know that this haphazard approach could be wreaking havoc on your skin biome? The truth is, mixing different brands means mixing different ingredients, and our skin doesn’t always react kindly to this chemical cocktail. The result? Dryness, oiliness, pigmentation, sensitivity and even acne can rear their ugly heads. If you’re experiencing any of these skin issues, take heed – put on your Sherlock Holmes deerstalker hat and become your own detective.

So, what’s the solution? Here are five tips to keep your skin healthy and glowing, no matter the season:

  • Hydrate inside and out – Start from within by drinking adequate fresh water daily. Hydration is key to plump, radiant skin. Additionally, incorporate prebiotic-rich wholefoods into your diet to promote gut health, which in turn reflects on your skin’s condition.
  • Stick to one brand – Simplify your skincare routine by finding a 100% natural brand that works for you and sticking with it – like Eco Diva Natural. Consistency is key when it comes to skincare, and using products from the same brand ensures compatibility and efficacy.
  • Harness the power of superfoods – Superfoods aren’t just for smoothie bowls – they’re also skincare superheroes. Look for products enriched with ingredients like baobab, shea, marula, chia seeds and cacao to nourish your skin from the outside in. These superfoods offer numerous benefits of vitamins, antioxidants, omegas and nourishment for skin. As the skin recognises these ingredients once applied, it goes to work synthesising and transforming from a skin condition into a healthy biome. The same applies to the gut. Your gut microbiome needs to be in good health in order to have great skin from within. That means a diet rich in superfoods, wholefoods and plant-based foods that offer the same antioxidative properties through their vital nutrients.
  • Embrace vitamin-enriched oils – For a real treat with vital nutrients, opt for vitamin-enriched plant-based body oils. These potent elixirs not only hydrate but also protect your skin from free radical damage, keeping it healthy and youthful. They can also assist with scar and wound healing as well as sunburn, and can be very effective in preventing stretch marks.
  • Opt for natural sunscreen – Sunscreen is non-negotiable, but not all sunscreens are created equal. Choose a natural sunscreen that doesn’t contain harmful chemicals like oxybenzone and octinoxate. Instead, opt for mineral-based formulas with ingredients like non-nano zinc oxide and titanium dioxide for broad-spectrum protection without the potential irritants. I just love my plants!

In conclusion, when it comes to skincare, I found less is often more. By simplifying your routine, choosing natural, nourishing ingredients and prioritising hydration and natural sun protection, you can say goodbye to dry, lacklustre skin and hello to a radiant complexion that glows from within.

Remember, your skin deserves the best – so why not give it exactly that? Watch your confidence get a boost, too!
