Smart tech for convenient cleaning this holiday season

This summer you may be facing constant traffic through your home or holiday home, bringing in dust, debris, crumbs and wet footprints. Rain showers that streak windows, and cooking and braai smells permeating the air are also byproducts of a season meant for relaxing, partying and spending quality time with your loved ones.

If your arsenal of cleaning equipment includes bulky vacuum cleaners, messy mops and buckets, you may want to change up to sleek and efficient smart appliances to take the back-breaking slog out of your day.

Trevor Brewer, director of leading lifestyle technology company Solenco, says that by investing in high-quality smart technology, homeowners also invest in convenience, energy savings and healthier living conditions.

“While convenience is obviously a huge plus when it comes to smart technology, the energy efficiency and health benefits of these appliances are equally important. Products that protect your health and home are smart investments.”

Consider a robot vacuum cleaner; it’s compact, light on energy consumption and does the work without you. The Hobot Legee range is D-shaped for hard-to-reach corners, and programmable to different run times and areas of your home – allowing it to do its work while you get on with the business of uninterrupted relaxation.

“Look for a robotic vacuum that has an all-terrain vacuuming and mopping feature that makes carpets and hardwood floors equally accessible, while smart-mapping technology will allow you to clean specific areas or spills in your home at the touch of a button,” says Brewer.

Messy mops, buckets and cleaning equipment are not what you need when there is a house full of guests. If you need an alternative to quickly clean hardwood floors, consider the Hizero F100 Bionic Hard Floor Cleaner (pictured), which does both the sweeping and mopping at the same time, ensuring a much quieter and more efficient cleaning experience than a vacuum. It is lightweight and has an 80-minute cordless runtime, while it separates clean from dirty water, ensuring you’re only ever cleaning your floors with clean water.

When it comes to cleaning large windows, there is a nifty little device on the market that will do the job quickly, efficiently and elegantly. The HOBOT-S6 Pro Window Cleaning Robot is a high-tech lightweight dual mop-polish robot that ensures uninterrupted, streak-free views in even the biggest homes, without a ladder or the need to get your hands dirty. You can operate the robot from your smartphone while you sit back and relax, knowing its UPS backup allows it to run even during a power cut.

Cooking smells and full dustbins can be a real downer when you have a party, and while scented candles or fresh flowers go some way to remove the smells, an air purifier is even better at the job.

“Air purifiers should have a comprehensive air filtration system that traps both large particles like dust and pet hair, as well as a HEPA filter to capture tiny allergens like smoke and pollen,” says Brewer.

The Solenco 803 Air Purifier is ideal for large living rooms with lots of traffic. It is equipped with Wi-Fi for remote control, energy-efficient and uses a comprehensive 5-stage filtration system to eliminate a wide range of airborne pollutants, including an activated carbon filter that neutralises odours, an antiviral filter that targets viruses and a UV-C light that destroys harmful micro-organisms.

“Smart household technology allows you to spend more time with friends and family, without worrying about maintaining the quality of your air or constantly cleaning up around you,” concludes Brewer.
