Aiding the rural child

Help the Rural Child Charity Shops is a project of the Goedgedacht Trust (T965/93; 006-582 NPO) and has seven shops at present (two dedicated bookshops, one furniture shop, and four clothing stores) in and around the Peninsula that sell high quality, well-priced books, clothing, footwear, bric-a-brac, games, CDs, DVDs, sporting goods, household textiles, and other items donated by the public. Customers can buy good-quality items at excellent prices.

The income generated from these stores goes directly to the Goedgedacht Trust towards the programmes that they run with rural children and their families in and around Riebeek Kasteel, strengthening and uplifting them and breaking the endless cycle of poverty and abuse, and supporting the children from birth to 18 years old and guiding them to become valued members of society.

We also have a Mobile Bookshop that travels from school to school selling their books to learners, parents, and teachers.  Due to the COVID-19 lockdown the Mobile Bookshop, cannot visit as many schools personally as they used to.

To continue to offer the joy of reading to children, our Mobile Bookshop has now opened an Online Children’s Bookshop.

Our online bookshop has a wonderful variety of nursery, primary and teen books in excellent condition and at very affordable prices.
