With the colder months now in full swing, we can expect ourselves to feel a lot lazier when it comes to our nighttime self-care routine. Let’s be honest, all we really want to do is cosy up next to the fireplace, sip on some hot cocoa and watch our favourite Netflix series on repeat – but you must stop yourself.
Fundamentals Skincare, a clean and local skincare brand, encourages everyone to take advantage of the colder evenings and indulge in taking that extra bit of time to care for your skin and body. You will thank yourself when summer rolls around again!
A great place to start, if you’re feeling overwhelmed, is exfoliation. Take at least two to three nights a week to indulge in a really good body scrub. Using a body scrub, whether a sugar or salt scrub, will significantly improve the texture, feeling and appearance of your skin during winter. Not only will it help remove the dead skin cells but it also assists in preventing ingrown hairs from developing.
Natasha Davel from Fundamentals Skincare says, “At Fundamentals, we are not only concerned with the skin on your face but also take great consideration for the skin on your body. Our skin in general goes through so much in winter, from unwanted dryness, to flaky and rough patches to dullness and lackluster appearance, and this is all due to the extreme environmental conditions. So, just as you would take precaution to protect the skin on your face, you should do the same for your body. That is why we have expanded our body range.”
New scrumptious body scrubs
A healthy body care routine consists of a body wash, body scrub, body oil and body lotion and, where necessary, a body serum and hair removal cream. Fundamentals Skincare has launched its brand new body scrub range that consists of four new and brilliantly formulated sugar body scrubs that promise to unlock the key to glowing skin in winter.
“These are exfoliating body scrubs that come in four unique scents: Hemingway Daiquiri, Watermelon, Mint Julep and an all-round favourite, Tropical Fruit. These are gentle mechanical exfoliators for the body to achieve smoother skin, removing dead skin cells while adding nourishment and hydration. They will also assist in preparing your skin for better absorption of body lotions,” adds Davel.
Some key ingredients you should know about in these body scrubs:
The Hemingway Daiquiri includes a luscious combination of jojoba ester and soybean oil, which together play a role in helping the skin retain moisture and improve its barrier function as well as provide strong antioxidant protection. Soybean oil is great for improving skin health and helps protect skin cells from free radical damage and keeps the skin healthy and young. Soy oil is an effective anti-wrinkle and anti-ageing oil.
The Watermelon scrub includes tocopherol, aloe extract, jojoba esters, avocado oil and retinol as its key ingredients. Using this body scrub either morning or evening will help soften and smooth the skin, nourishing and protecting the skin from damage caused by free radicals. The aloe vera is rich in antioxidants and skin-boosting enzymes to help your skin heal from minor irritations and stay smooth and glowing with health. Avocado oil helps smooth and plump skin and keep it elastic.
For ultra-smooth and silky skin, opt for the Mint Julep body scrub that is packed with jojoba esters, which is a powerful agent in strengthening the skin barrier and locking in the moisture your skin craves for in winter.
And lastly, the Tropical Fruit body scrub has hero ingredients such as aloe extract, jojoba esters and retinol which, similarly to the Watermelon scrub, will offer you a holistic exfoliation and self-care routine for your body.
“Once you have tried a body scrub, you won’t go back. It’s an essential part of every body care routine and acts as a complementary step to your previous or post treatments. For example: a body scrub is a perfect pre-step in using a hair removal cream, as it cleans the surface before removing the hair and allows for a smooth and even hair removal process,” concludes Davel.
